The Kingfisher by Corné van Oosterhout
For about 20 years I’m fascinated by kingfishers, with his exotic colored feathers, great behavior but most of all their stunning eating habits. From a perch above the water (which can vary from 0,5 to 5 meters) they dive into the water to grab a fish with a length till about 9-10cm. Last year I spent photographing this spectaculair behavior. It took me a while to get the right setup and catch the movement. When diving from a branch 1 meter above the water surface, the bird is back on his perch with a fish within a second. At last I used 8 flashes on my Nikon D800 to freeze the action.
