For years now migrants have been assembling in the French port of Calais in the hope to hitch a ride to the United Kingdom. Most are young and single men, who have become more and more desperate and aggressive to find their way across the Channel where a greater number of job opportunities and the more familiar English language are big draws.
Currently the squalid, unsanitary "jungle" hosts 4,000 migrants from poor and strife-torn countries outside the European Union.
